Introduction to Capro Europe

Capro Europe is an assembly plant specialising in the manufacture of light mechanical cable systems. The company supplies a range of major automotive suppliers with cables for car seating reclining and lumber support mechanisms. We also produce cables for door and boot release mechanisms, as well as for a number of industrial uses, including lawnmower throttle and engine brake controls.

How the requirements were identified

With a fluctuating workforce, good supervision is paramount for the effective training and managing of so many newcomers. The company’s cell leaders are very much the “front-line” in the management of personnel, quality and productivity. They have a significant impact on the success of the company. Every year therefore, a key element of the company’s training programme is the development of team leadership skills for its up-and-coming, and newly appointed cell leaders.

We were delighted with the approach Allen Partnership took as they spent extensive time investigating and getting to understand the particular requirements of Capro, before providing the SteppingStones leadership programme for our trainee cell leaders.

Allen Partnership was asked to focus in particular on the key areas of: inducting newcomers, communicating to a team and dealing with performance issues within the team. It has been established that these areas are especially important if cell leaders are to perform effectively in their role.

Results

Immediate feedback from the training was extremely positive with employees bringing ideas forward for them to get more involved in the induction process. Since then meetings have been held with the two groups to compile a standardised guidance checklist for cell leaders to effectively integrate new employees as soon as they have completed the basic company induction and initial training.
